Porcelain Glaze Protection & Scratch Prevention for Vitreous China
What Is Vitreous China and Why Is Its Glaze So Fragile?
Modern toilets are manufactured from vitreous china — a specialized clay body fired at extreme temperatures (over 2,200°F) and fused with an ultra-smooth glassy glaze coating. This factory glaze is completely non-porous, highly reflective, and designed to allow water to glide smoothly without resistance.
However, despite its rock-like appearance, this glass surface is only a few thousandths of an inch thick. When homeowners attack stubborn rings with metal coat hangers, wire brushes, abrasive scouring powders, or coarse pumice stones, the micro-thin glaze is permanently etched.
Preserving Factory High-Gloss Finish
To preserve your bathroom fixtures for decades without dulling or scratching:
- Never Use Wire or Stiff Metal Brushes: Stick to soft silicone brushes or hands-free effervescent foam.
- Avoid Caustic Hydrochloric Acid: Commercial muriatic and hydrochloric bowl acids can chemically etch porcelain over time.
- Use Chelating Citric Agents: Non-abrasive active foams like Fuugu dissolve scale chemically without physical friction.
Tired of Scraping Stubborn Waterline Rings?
Try Fuugu self-activating micro-foam cleaner. Dissolve heavy calcium crust and uric encrustations without abrasive scrubbing or damaged porcelain glaze.
